Learn About Wigs
The popularity of wigs started in the 60s and 70s when most women wore either a fall or a full wig. Wigs and Falls were very fashionable items, and it was very convenient in aiding with the popular styles at the time. Well, we think wigs are making a comeback, and luckily they have come a long way since the 60s. The wigs we carry are breathable, and some weigh only an ounce! They come in thousands of colors and styles. We have about 200 displayed in our boutique! We recommend synthetic wigs for the first timers, since the styles are permanently set. Even after a washing, the style remains in its original shape. They are a lot easier to manage than human hair, and our customers find synthetic wigs fun to style. I recommend that you do some research. We will go over some wig basics!
Wigs 101
- Mono-Filament/Sheer Scalp wigs are wigs that are hand-made and each hair is threaded one by one to create a natural looking scalp.
- Machine-Tied Wigs are made by a machine and have filler hair to cover the are where a scalp would show.
- Synthetic wigs can be washed without compromising the style. For example, if it's curly, it will stay that way. The style is permanently set.
- Never apply heat to a synthetic wig such as a blow dryer, curling iron, straightening iron, or hot rollers. Be careful when you are cooking near an oven. When wearing a wig, never stick your head in the oven.
- Wiglets are just small body builders to add more hair to areas that are sparse. They are great if you have just a small area that needs more body. You can also incorporate your own hair with a wiglet.
- Wash your wig every 40 times you wear it. Washing a Wig too frequently can cause a lot of wear.
- You can use wig hairspray, gel, luster mist and conditioner to maintain and style your wig.
- Hang your wig on the wig stand at night for airflow. This will keep the wig fresh, and you can wash it less frequently.
- Enjoy the time you save from wearing a wig!
